Do you want to learn how to whitewater kayak?

This introductory class provides a safe, gentle introduction into the world of whitewater kayaking. The class progresses through topics over the course of two sessions in the warm pool and concludes on May 3rd by applying the same skills outside on a lake and an easy river (Flat Water/Moving Water Day). This progression allows you to comfortably build on your skills and gain confidence by the time you kayak a river for the first time.

The beginner curriculum is based on well-established ACA standards that assume no previous experience in a kayak. You will learn about boats, essential gear, basic paddle strokes, river safety, and we'll introduce you to the kayak roll.

This is class one of two plus the Flatwater/Moving Water Day. The other date for this class & group is March 29 and the Flatwater/Moving Water Weekend on May 2nd & 3rd.

Prerequisites: None

Cost:  $180 course fee plus $9.25 pool admission for each pool session. Includes two 3-hour pool sessions, the flat-water/moving water day and rental equipment (boat, spray skirt, and paddle) for the two pool sessions.

Instructors:  Dick Alweis & Leslie Tyson
