Seeking 2010 Cruise Leaders and Sweeps! Please contact Laurie at LMaciag@yahoo.com to add your dates to the schedule.

CW 2010 Cruise/Event Schedule

Cruises will be added as they are scheduled.  Check back!
To add a cruise, e-mail LMaciag@yahoo.com.

Conditions change drastically with water level.  Most parts of Colorado have an above average snow pack this year.  Please research the run you are interested in doing.  Online resources for run descriptions and flows include EddyFlower - CO and American Whitewater - CO.  Published resources include Colorado Rivers & Creeks 2 and Whitewater of the Southern Rockies.  If you are unsure if your ability matches the run at the predicted flow, discuss your boating resume with the leader.

Please remember you are responsible for yourself on the river.  You are also responsible to the group.  Boat within your ability.  Don't take unnecessary risks.  Don't participate in a rescue if you are likely to become another victim.  Cruise Coordinators have the right to deny inclusion on a trip for any reason and they also have the right to request a participant to leave the river for any reason.

Do not show up to a cruise unannounced.  You must contact the cruise leader in advance as trips have participant limits and ability requirements.  If you are not going to make a scheduled event, you MUST let the leader know.  No-shows are inconsiderate.

Cruises and River Weekends are not instuctional events.  You should have the skills necessary to safely navigate the section of river to be run.

Only current CW members are allowed to participate in CW events.  Please bring your completed liability waiver to give to the leader for each event.  You can find it here:  CW Waiver

Clear Creek Cruise Progression - 2010

Cruise coordinators:  Dan Simon  DSimon@ballytech.com

                               Steve Dougherty  sdougherty@eroresources.com

Clear Creek is a great local boating resource; however, many boaters never venture beyond the Golden whitewater park.  This will be a progression of 4 cruises on 4 different reaches of Clear Creek with the objective of getting the cruise participants familiar with creeking on some reaches on Clear Creek.  The cruises will build in difficulty.  To participate you need to be comfortable on Class III water and have a good river roll.  If you are comfortable on Browns or Fractions at >2,500 cfs (high intermediate) you should do fine on the runs we will be doing at the flows we are targeting. To participate in cruises 2, 3 and 4 you must have participated in all of the previous cruises and get approval from the cruise coordinators.  If you have been wanting to improve your creeking skills and get some experience on Clear Creek, this is a great opportunity.  All cruises are on Thursday evenings at 5:30 pm and are subject to change due to flows or other circumstances.

Cruise 1:  June 17- Below Tunnel 1 to Golden whitewater park

Cruise 2:  June 24 - Idaho Springs to Kermit's

Cruise 3:  July 8 - Below diversion dam above Tunnel 1 to Tunnel 1 (twice)

Cruise 4:  July 15 - Lower Clear Creek (below bridge to above 1/4 Screaming Mile)

Limited to 6 participants.

From the Junction of Highways 24 and 285 (Johnson’s Village) take 285 south about 8 miles to County Road 270 and turn right or west (there are two sets of pipes that go over the highway, if you reach the second set, you have gone too far). Follow the road as it changes from paved to dirt. You will have to look for a left fork in the road, CR272, there will be a sign for Brown’s Creek Trailhead. Follow the road until you hit the trailhead  w/bathrooms.  Keep going down this road until you see kayaks on cars.  There will portable toilet facilities available but you'll need to bring water and firewood and everything else, & prepare for any kind of weather.

Come have an awesome time on the Ark!

7/22 - Clear Creek - Dumont section

This class III/IV run is a classic front-range gem.  I expect that the water will be at a moderate/low level, which is perfect to check this run out for your first time.  Participants should have a solid roll in class III water and good bracing

technique.  We will road scout the Big 3 rapids on the way up to the put-in.
