Colorado White Water Association Member Conduct & Participation Policy

Effective September 23, 2025

1. Purpose

The Colorado White Water Association (CW) is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all members, volunteers, and guests. This policy outlines expectations for member conduct and participation and supports the Association’s purpose as defined in its bylaws.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all individuals who hold active membership with CW, including individual, household, and organizational members, as well as participants in CW-sponsored events, classes, or volunteer activities.

3. Member Responsibilities

  • Assume Risk: Acknowledge and accept the inherent risks associated with whitewater paddling and related outdoor activities by signing and submitting the CW Annual Waiver,

  • Adhere to Safety Protocols: Follow safety rules, river etiquette, and guidance provided by instructors, trip leaders, and CW representatives at all times.

  • Respect Others: Treat fellow members, volunteers, board members, and guests with respect and courtesy, regardless of skill level, background, identity, or personal beliefs.

  • Uphold Environmental Stewardship: Refrain from behaviors that harm river ecosystems, and promote conservation and responsible recreation.

  • Protect Privacy: Respect the confidentiality of personal information and do not share member data without consent. See the CW privacy policy. 

4. Prohibited Conduct

  • Discrimination, harassment, or intimidation of any kind

  • Reckless or dangerous behavior that endangers others

  • Unauthorized use of CW property, funds, or member information

  • Disruption of CW meetings, classes, or events

  • Fraud, theft, or misrepresentation

5. Disciplinary Action

Violations of this policy may result in disciplinary action, including but not limited to

  • Verbal or written warnings

  • Suspension of membership privileges

  • Revocation of membership without refund

  • Prohibition from participating in CW events, cruises, or classes

Any disciplinary decision will be made at the discretion of the Board of Directors, following a reasonable opportunity for the member to respond.

6. Acknowledgment & Enforcement

Members will be required to affirm this policy upon joining or renewing membership and prior to participation in CW events. The Board reserves the right to update or amend this policy at any time. A current version will be published on the Association’s website.
