See Jane Paddle Camping Weekend July 31 - August 2, 2026!
It's the 3rd Annual SJP Camping Weekend on the Arkansas, Whoo hoo!! Let's get on the river, gather around a campfire, and celebrate the river goddesses we are.
Canyon River Instruction (CRI) will be hosting our camping. Tents and sleeping vehicles are welcome. Unsure if we have space for any trailers so if this is of interest, please reach out to Sandi after you register. Porta Potties and drinking water are available.
Our camp hosts also highly recommend carpooling if possible.
All boating crafts are welcome.
CW Disclaimer: River weekends are not instructional events and are not suitable for those who have not had instruction or experience in whitewater kayaking or rafting.
CAMPING / REGISTRATION TYPES: Free Camping and registration for all SJP ladies. All must register and sign our annual waiver. Day Participants are not staying overnight. Car Campers are those who sleep in their vehicles. Tent campers are those who will be pitching a tent.
WHO CAN COME: This event is specifically for those who identify as women. Please no husbands, male partners/friends or children, as much as we appreciate their support of our whitewater journey.
SOME GUIDELINES:
- CW Members Only / Registration: You must register in advance and be a Colorado Whitewater member to attend, regardless if you boating or are just camping.
- Release Forms: Be sure you sign your annual waiver using this webpage. Colorado Whitewater - CW Release Waiver. Only need to sign once per year.
- Skills / Gear: As a reminder, river weekends/ cruises are not instructional events and are not suitable for those who have not had instruction or experience in whitewater kayaking or rafting. Although we're all there to support one another, plan on boating within your skill level. Minimum necessary equipment for all boaters includes helmet, river shoes, type 3 or type 5 personal flotation device, and appropriate dry top or other layers. Kayakers should also have their float bags and skirt. Inflatable kayaks and rafts must be intended for whitewater use - not the vulnerable ones from department or sporting goods stores.
- Fires: No open wood burning fires at camp but welcome self-contained ones as long as there is no County burn ban at the time of the event
- Dogs: Camp is on private property and no dogs are allowed
CRUISES: TBD but will include a spectrum of difficulty. We will meet in the morning to decide how to split up based on the number of women in attendance. We'll meet at 9:00am on Saturday and Sunday mornings to finalize cruises.
SATURDAY DINNER: We're hoping to share a meal with the awesome female river guides of Canyon River Instruction. This outfitter is known for having a mostly female guide staff, many who also work with Worldwide Women of Whitewater and have some amazing stories to share. Let's break some bread with our whitewater community. (Have a great large group meal idea? Email Sandi with ideas.)
CRI HYBRID SWR AND ROWING TUNE UP COURSE (4 days): If you're feeling particularly ambitious and want a few extra days on the water, CRI happens to be running a Hybrid Swiftwater Rescue and Rowing course while we're there. This is a coed course and is not through CW but is available and you get to hang out with all of us at camp afterward so it could be the best of both worlds.
